Honourary Doctorate Degree, Conferred on Amb. Hassan Ardo Tukur MFR, OFR.
The city of Ogbomoso was agog on Saturday, April 29th, 2023, when the Principal Secretary to Fmr President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Ambassador Hassan Ardo Tukur, MFR, OFR, the Patron of the Unveiling and Rebranding Nigeria Initiative, was awarded a honorary doctorate degree by the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Oyo State, alongside three others.
The awards were presented during the 15th Convocation Ceremony held by the University.
Upon commencement of the event, the National Anthem, Oyo State Anthem and School Anthem were sung by all present. Afterwards, a welcome address was delivered and this was followed by speeches articulately presented by the Ag. Vice chancellor, Prof Mojeed Olaide Liasu and the Pro chancellor/Chairman Governing Council, Prof Ayodeji Oludare Omole.
Among other dignitaries, Amb. Hassan Tukur was present with his amiable wife, Her Excellency, Asmao Tukur, to receive the award.
Amb. Hassan Ardo Tukur expressed his high regard for the award, which he described as unique, noting that he once aspired to become a lecturer, but eventually ventured into diplomacy. This change, he said, was largely influenced by the elimination of his mentor and lecturer, Doctor Bala Muhammed on July 10th, 1981 in Kano; a traumatizing event that altered his view on academic-centred careers. Therefore, receiving an award in the academic world is a unique feat for him.
For all of us at the Unveiling and Rebranding Nigeria Initiative, this is a milestone. This award speaks volumes as it highlights Amb. Hassan Tukur’s hard work and dedication towards nation building which can never go unnoticed. We are indeed grateful to have him as our Patron and we deeply admire his perseverance and diligence. It is our earnest prayer that he continuously thrives, marking great achievements.
