EKITI SPEAKER TASKS CHILDREN ON READING CULTURE.

The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Funminiyi  Afuye has charged primary school pupils and youths in the state to study hard so that they can be successful in life.


The Speaker gave the charge while featuring on The Reading Parent on Radio, a programme sponsored by the State Universal Basic Education Board on Ekiti FM 91.5.


He urged children and youths to cultivate the culture of reading noting that good education to a large extent determines what an individual becomes in life.


The Speaker who expressed hope that academic activities would soon resume in schools urged children to continue maintain good personal hygiene and COVID-19 protocols before and after resumption.

 

Speaking to newsmen after the programme, the Executive Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof Francisca Aladejana noted that the Reading Parent on Radio Programme is part of efforts of the State Government to promote reading culture amongst school-age children and youths in the State.

 

She said the programme is also expected to boost knowledge, expand vocabulary and improve listening skills, memory retention, and writing skills of the learners.


According to the SUBEB boss, the programme was also designed to promote the culture of mentoring youths in their formative years and encouraging them to acquire love for books and reading culture.She disclosed that the storybook , "Bayo's Weekend Trip" by Wale Okediran which was read during  the programme also  has the COVID-19 
pandemic currently ravaging most countries of the world  as one of its central themes.
